Picked the Milky Way and the beginning of the world up from fire.

Kim Jeongnam (Before. Chief of Education Culture in Cheongwadae)

The ceramics reflect their own national sentiment. The emotional classification of Yanagi Muneyoshi (1889-1961), a Japanese folklorist, is worthy of note for pointing out the national characteristics of Korea, China, and Japan.

He said that, in the ceramics, the three elements of plasticity are line, color, and form. China has strong the beauty of form, Japan has a bright color, and Korea has a beautiful line. And said that Chinese porcelain of the beauty of form shows perfection, Japanese porcelain of the beauty of color shows clean and Korean porcelain is known for smooth curve.

So, he wants to see Chinese porcelain put on the high shelf, want to use Japanese porcelain as always and he said that Korean porcelain want to touch. The warm familiarity and sincerity are the characteristics of Korean white porcelain. It is the moon jar that represents the Korean white porcelain. The official name is Bakjadaeho(白磁大壺). There are about twenty the moon jars which is more than 45cm were made in Geumsari, early 18th Century, in the Youngjo era period. And seven of them are designated as national treasures or treasures.

These moon jars attract human beings with a mysterious charm, and even today moon jars be wanted the first a masterpiece that craftsmen want. It was physically impossible to make such a large round pot with a passive wheel that was originally before the invention of power.

But the art souls of potters who want to make a large, round jar like a moon are made of a two-large bowl which attached to each other. For this reason, these moon jars are warmly by a sense of closeness and volume that cannot be felt in a perfect geometric circle. This atypical round line is tinged, gives a good taste and gives a bigger aesthetic. Regarding the moon jar, the writings left by Hyegok Choi Sung-woo (1916-1984) are excellent. He said, "When I look at the moon jar, I feel like watching the older daughter-in-law of a wealthy family and it is written like this.

“The rounded taste expressed in the white color and craft art of Korea is one of the unique constitution of Korean formative beauty. Therefore, if it don't know the wide white light world of Korea and the indomitable beauty drawn by the irregular circle which is hard to express it cannot say that it have mastered the basics of the beauty of Korean. Moreover, the taste of the circle expressed in the white porcelain jars of the Joseon Dynasty It is a feeling of seeing the basic background of the human who a pious mind because it is so abundant and so pure as the white background color.”

The moon jar is enlarged to the aesthetic as you see it. There are many people at home and abroad who are attracted to the mysterious aesthetic. Among them, there was a painter Kim Hwan-ki (1913-1974), who praised the moon jar earlier. “How did a man make these white porcelain jars? If I look at the many jar, I feel the touch. It is a cold pottery, but a sense of warmth comes up. How did a person put his body temperature in the soil?"

Another foreigner said the impression. "It's so beautiful to see this all day long. Looking at it, all the worries of the world disappear. " It is a story about a traditional white porcelain, but Lee Hyo-young potter made a new impression by changing the traditional moon pot one more step. He created moon jars of jade cobalt ruby as well as milky white porcelain. They are modern attempts not satisfied with the reproduction of the past.

He said that the same as the bowl. He repeats various attempts at Dawan. As a result, he achieved the achievement of new works. When he look into it close-up, it can feel the "warm body temperature" in the "cold pottery" as the painter Kim Hwan-ki points out in the white porcelain jar.

Perhaps the most unique part of Lee Ho-young's pottery is flat surface pottery. I have been to the artist's workshop a few years ago, but when I tried to burn a traditional firewood kiln, I was drawn by my acquaintances and looked around at his studio. There were about twenty pieces of his flat surface pottery work in the studio. There are also flat surface pottery of celadon lotus flat, and some works of famous people painted. It was also new that he tried to make flat surface pottery while seeing these works, and it was felt that the accomplishment which was made flat surface pottery was uncommon.

Recently, I heard that Lee Ho-young's potter has completed a large wall work in the Namhae of Gyeongnam. I met him a while ago and started to blossom with this story, and soon I decided to go to the South Sea together with my acquaintances. I feel heartbreaking to see myself the masterpiece which is hight 5meter and length 200meter.

Just as art is never ending, it is hard to imagine for now what his to any accomplishments. I hope you will accomplish a great deal.

Painting of fire

Lee Jonghwan (CEO of World Korean)

There are about 100 pieces of passionate works that will have been submitted in the exhibition "painting of fire" by Lee Ho-young, the master of ceramics. According to the artist, there are three kinds of exhibition works. First, it is a bowl. It is said that 60-70 pieces of the bowl which called 'maksabal' will be exhibited.

Most of them are recent works. The other one is a jar. It will exhibit about 20 pieces of various colored moon jars including milky moon jar as well as a jade cobalt color. I also possess a moon jar of Lee Ho-young, which is a jade jar named "Heavenly". He said that everything is a harmony of fire. Despire used the same glaze, temperature and the same kiln, according to the location of the fire and the intensity of the fire, the colors will vary from one to the other. He ask in retune to me that you believe or not that the jade light and the cobalt colored jars come from the same kiln with the same glaze.

The artist also says that there is a bright contrast in fire. He said that when it put a lot of firewood at once, it becomes a cloudy fire, and when it put the firewood evenly and control well, it becomes a clear fire. However, he said, there are more colors coming out of a cloudy fire than a clearer fire. To make a celadon or a white porcelain, the fire must be constant. So that, it can get a consistent color. However, the artist does not aim to obtain a uniform color. The goal is to find a diverse variety through the harmony of fire and glaze, earth and air. So, he keeps changing the fire.

It is to find the variety of color through the change of fire. Even if the same glaze is painted, his color is different according to the time and quality of fire. There is a quantity and quality of fire, and the harmony of blend of glazes also changes accordingly. Lee Ho-young hesitates to say that he should introduce his masterpiece. Each work has different characteristics and it is not easy to pick out representative work.

First of all, the first thing introduced in Dawan is "moonstone" When introducing this work, the artist introduced the feeling that he gets sucked in as he looks inside the Dawan. If so, you can name it "buried". It was mixed with glaze and coffee, and this work came out. 'Hwahoi dawan' is a masterpiece in the studio. the artist 's wife loves it and so she asked to not for sale. The artist asserts that it is a work that no one can reproduce. The artist emphasized that he made it his own way. And he said that it was secret prescription.

The artist was born and grew up in a ceramic workshop. He grew up rolling around dirt, kilns, firewood, and glaze. Because of this, the artist is accustomed to mud, glaze and fire. It would also be due to his unique growth process that he said he worked in large numbers in kiln than any one. In order to achieve harmony of fire, the artist specially makes the glaze he produced called 'Glaze of the night' or 'Glaze of the universe'.

Can you believe that a galaxy jade jar, a galaxy amethyst jar, and a galaxy blue jar are the same three twins made of the same glaze? There is no field that the artist has not tried to such as white porcelain, buncheong porcelain as well as celadon. He was tired of making a traditional 'bowl' and also challenged a flat surface porcelain. It is a flat surface porcelain that became his 'major field'. The soil is reduced when it is burnt in the fire. It is said to be reduced by 16-22%. In the process, it became warped and uneven. It is the same principle as squid as it twists and shrinks. To catch this distortion is just Lee Ho Young's know-how.

His efforts and trials followed until he developed his know-how. Eventually he found out know-how. he gets unrivaled renown in flat surface porcelain cause to his tenacity. Last April, he made a specialty which will be record the Guinness World Book in Namhae.

He had made a large plane porcelain fresco in Lee sun-shin memorial park on the coast of the Gwaneum coast, where General Admiral Lee Sun-shin had died. Buncheong plane porcelain mural painting is a grand structure with a height of 5m and a length of 200m. It is made by attaching 3,779 pieces of 50cm x 50cm porcelain murals. This work, which depicts the process from Admiral Lee Sun shin 's participation in the Battle of Noryang to the end of the war, is the world' s largest ceramics murals. You cannot find it anywhere in the world, you can only find in Namhae.

When the artist was proposed to make this mural from pottery from the Namhae, he was willing to think that he would make the world's unique specialty. The artist is the only ceramist in Korea who can create a large flat surface porcelain. The murals paintings made in the Namhae Lee Sun-shin Park are Horizontal and vertical 50cm but can produce up to 90cm x 220cm in his studio he says he has installed a special kiln that can create this size, and he can make it bigger if he makes a bigger kiln.

He also received an invention patent for this flat ceramic production technique.
His flat pottery works are possessed all over the place.
Lee Ho Young's challenge is endless. He is a artist who draws the night sky and the universe with his special glaze.
